DISCLAIMER ……. You should read the next few lines with the “These are a few of my favorite things” tune in your head)

Plates full of tacos with rice and mixed veggies. Sloppy burritos in bowls or tortillas. Warm crunchy nachos all dressed up with cheese. These are a few of my favorite things.

I recently saw the movie “The Sound of Music”. The classic musical by Rogers and Hammerstein from 1965 featuring a young Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer. Yes I know, the movie was set in 1930’s Austria and has nothing to do with Mexican or Tex-Mex fare, but it got me thinking…”What are a few of my favorite things? If I’m being honest with you, I could say the entire Nacho Hippo menu makes up my list of favorite things. However, today I’m only going to focus on a few things.

When I visit Nacho Hippo, I like bring a lot of people with me. When I bring enough friends, we can order items from each section of the menu and share. That way I get to sample something from each section of the menu. Let’s start with the appetizers.

I go for a couple of options. The first option is the Salsa Sampler. This comes from our Trippy Dips sections of the menu and features our fresh and warm tortilla chips and three different types of our made from scratch salsas. First up is our Fire Roasted Salsa. Our Fire Roasted Salsa is a calm traditional salsa blend that is on the mild side of the Scoville scale (the Scoville scale was created by John Scoville in the early 20th century as a “spice index” to measure the heat of peppers and salsas). The second offering, puts a little more heat on the tongue but brings a lot of colorful flavor to the table. While I tend to get very excited about the first two options, the third salsa is something you will want to tell your grandchildren about. Our Mango Habanero Salsa not only cranks up the color and the heat, but the flavor profile is just amazing. We love it so much we use it in several different items at Nacho Hippo!

At this point, most people would move on to their meal, but I’m telling you that you are missing out if you don’t order the Grilled Corn on the Cob. You are probably thinking, “this guy has lost his mind”. I know you were on board with the Tortilla Chips and Salsa, but corn on the cob? I can promise you that once you taste it the first time you will want to order it every time you visit. Our Grilled Corn is much differently than you would normally see it. We start by spiking it with some Cajun seasoning and covering it in a queso fresco. If that wasn’t enough for you, we are going do drizzle some fresh crema across the top of it to really let your taste buds have fun.

Now we can move on to the Hip Tacos section. I always struggle a bit at this section because there are so many choices and so many wonderful flavors, but when I really want a full spectrum of flavors, I have to go with the Kahuna. We take some shredded chicken, season it with teriyaki sauce and then top it with a pineapple salsa, crisp slaw and some spicy mayo before wrapping it in a griddled flour tortilla. If you are feeling up for something really different, we do have soft or hard corn tortillas available for you. Just ask your server to make the change when you order.

How about some Quesadillas? Our Quesadillas are huge and could be a meal all by themselves, but are even better when shared with friends. I like to order the Good Stuff! quesadilla. It gives me a chance to add items to it based on what my desired tastes are leaning towards that day. Shredded chicken, taco beef, sautéed or blackened shrimp, or steak. So many options to pair with the already strong blend of cheddar and Monterey jack cheeses, sautéed bell peppers and onions. What’s not to like!

Next up is our specialties section. This is where we get really creative. My favorite item from this portion of the menu has to be the Carnitas. Crispy, slow roasted pork, seasoned black beans and yellow rice served with pico de gallo, guacamole, cilantro, onion, pepper jack cheese, fresh lime and your choice of corn or flour tortillas. For me this is heaven on a plate. The smooth blend of slow roasted pulled pork playing off the spice of the pepper jack cheese with the hint of lime all mixed with the fresh made toppings just makes me want to get up and “jarabe Tapatio” (aka do the Mexican Hat Dance).

By now, you should have a good understanding why I always travel with a crowd with going to Nacho Hippo with me. We are just getting to our signature section. The item we are most know for: NACHOS! My go to is the Bangin’ Shrimp Nachos. Fried shrimp, spicy mayo, mango salsa, pico de gallo, queso, a mixed cheese blend, and shredded lettuce all piled on a bed of fresh warm tortilla chips will help you appreciate why Nacho Hippo has previously been voted the “Best Place for Nachos”.

We have made it through all but one section of our menu, but no trip to Nacho Hippo would be completed without ordering dessert! I recommend the Churros! A classic Mexican offering that features sticks of fried dough coated in cinnamon and sugar and drizzled with chocolate syrup. With six Churros to every order, there is plenty to share with friends!

Now we want to know, what are your favorite things? What menu items do you want to share with friends or keep all for yourself?
